FAN FICTION: NEW WORKS BY PAUL RENTLER
MARCH 21-MAY 3, 2020

Due to the current Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, The Compound Gallery has decided to postpone all special events until further notice. This means we will not host an opening reception for our upcoming solo show Fan Fiction by Paul Rentler on Sat. March 21st. 6-9pm. We are disappointed that we will not be able to share Paul’s new work to the public in a group celebratory setting, as he has spent a great deal of time preparing for the show and creating this fantastic new body of work.

The Compound Gallery is pleased to announce the first solo show by Paul Rentler.  “Fan Fiction” will showcase a wide range of new work that incorporates multi-layered painting and printing techniques that explore pulp pop and printed ephemera.  Rentler finds his inspiration in the close observation of imperfections, textures, and unintended design found in all printed materials. Rentler’s mixed media paintings and wood cut-outs integrate a new color palette with quasi-nostalgic imagery and less traditional pop art approaches.

"The art is based on a path formed by my love of making photocopied art zines and bedroom screen printing. I work more by instinct than anything else. The path to what I do comes form many branches, and doesn’t have a singular drive or origin, but stems from many starts and stops, and a combination of experiences. At some point, it gels together enough to hang my name on it and commit to taking it further."

Paul Rentler is an Artist, Designer, and Musician, from Columbus Ohio. His work is a mix of lo-fi photocopy techniques, collage, illustration, screen-printing, and a few other mixed media techniques. The work Focuses on image manipulation and collaging pop elements to create strange, distorted, sometimes comical imagery. Heavy with grit and texture. He designed for D.C. Comics Imprint DC’s Young Animal 2015-2018. Variant cover artist for Image Comics Ice Cream Man #14 2019.  Paul has participated in gallery  shows in Columbus, Chicago, Austin, Orlando, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Australia.
