Christo (1935-2020) and Jeanne-Claude (1935-2009) were married artists known for their monumental environmental installations. Born on the same day in Bulgaria and Morocco respectively, they began collaborating in Paris in the 1960s. Their signature works involved wrapping landmarks and landscapes in fabric, including the Reichstag in Berlin, Pont Neuf in Paris, and various coastlines and islands. Notable projects like "The Gates" in New York's Central Park featured thousands of saffron-colored fabric panels. They self-funded all projects through sale of preparatory artwork, refusing sponsorships to maintain artistic freedom. Their work challenged traditional art boundaries by creating temporary, large-scale public experiences.
